Alrighty, we’re starting off with an oddly CGI’d/animated intro with lots of our old favorite movie characters just walking around. Fair enough. Drumroll, please and thank you – and – Jon Stewart. Starting with a writer’s strike joke, bold. Followed up with a joke about Javier Bardem’s haircut in No Country for Old Men. That one was a gimme. Good to get those out of the way.
Question:Is Jack Nicholson photophobic? Awwww… who cares? I am enjoying Jon. I thought he was relaxed and fun. no?
I thought they came out with supporting actress earlier than this. There is already a package? This early on? Uh-oh, I fear we’re in for an even longer (feeling) ride tonight! Amy Adams was pretty good.
Well, we all now know that Daniel Day Lewis’s wife is gonna get worst dressed. That frock is confused, the straps say “Merry Christmas, Open me now!” but the front has 1950s clip on earrings enlarged about 1000 times stapled to the front of it.
Finally, we’re getting to a major award at 43 minutes in. Supporting Actor is…Javier Bardem! That one was a gimme. If you didn’t have Javier (and Daniel Day Lewis), you aren’t bringing your A game. I still think he was more of a lead role though. Oh well. It’s a win in my pool. Yay!
“Oscar Salutes Binoculars and Telescopes” Jon’s letting us see what the Oscars would look like without the writers. I would like to say that it feels like there are some really odd presenters tonight. The Rock? Don’t get me wrong, he’s fun. Just seems odd, is all.
Okay, Best Supporting Actress, this one was a tough call for me, like a four way tie, they all deserve, and somehow anyone winning is like an upset. And the winner is…Tilda Swinton! She did win the BAFTA. Okay, I didn’t call it but someone else did! Good job, J.
Ooooh, Jessica Alba, I am forced to wonder what you’re famous for. It is not acting. You were introduced as the “always wonderful, Jessica Alba” and you are – but, at what? And – Best Adapted Screenplay goes to the Coen Brothers. Little tip: don’t let Jed in your oscar pool…unless you want to loose!
A closer look into the voting and accounting process. Yawn. Miley Cyrus introduces another nominated song, this time sung by Kristin Chenowith (Love!) but the song = NotLove. And it really doesn’t showcase Chenowith’s powerful voice. It sounds like one rejected from the Little Mermaid. Just saying, not very original.
Sound Mixing and Editing (both to Bourne Ultimatum) blah blah blah. Best Actress is Marion Cotillard. Score one for me! And for the movies. Look how beautiful she is! And in the movie? So, so bad. I like her speech. “Thank you, Life. Thank you, Love.” Her exuberance is a delight.
A nod to Wii tennis. I liked it but didn’t get it. Was a girl calling Jon, ‘Mr. Jon?’ Creepy. Oh Goody, the Once song is sung by the movie stars. I liked the movie. I like Glen Hansard’s voice. Does it remind you of Cat Steven’s voice a little bit?
Am I the only one who feels like this was a bad idea? How old am I that I am getting kinda tired? Or is it just that this feels like we’ve been at this for days?
Robert Goyle? I thought she was saying Robert Boyle, and I was thinking it was the old guy on Everybody Loves Raymond. But that’s Peter Boyle, silly. And another song. You’re driving me to eat, Oscar Producers. Boredom eating is what I’ve been reduced to.
HA! Best song went to Once. Yippeee! I was surprised they were only nominated for one. Suckers. But if they win for that one, I’m satisfied. Glen Hansard was a little teary eyed. “Tanks!” all around and a few utterances of “Make Art!” Love it.
I don’t know if it’s appropriate to have the Skeletal Hilary Swank introduce the In Memorium package.
Best Actor goes to Daniel Day-Lewis. We don’t want ot rub it in, but we told you so. (Daniel Day Lewis seemed charming and affable on stage).
For Best Director we smell fraternal love and…we’re right! Yeppers. Coen Brothers rocked it. Any complaints you had about the movie probably had to do more with the original material in the book (that ending!?!?). No complaints with director.
And finally, 15 minutes past deadline, the Best Picture goes to…No Country For Old Men. Cleaned up a bit more than alot of others were predicting. I’m on board with it (especially since I didn’t get around to seeing There Will Be Blood so I can’t make any comparisons.)
What’d you guys think? I give Jon Stewart an A. I liked him taking the time to bring Marketa Irglova back on stage to say her thanks you. I thought he mixed humor and awareness with a soft touch.
Awww, you don’t care anymore. It’s time for bed. Goodnight!
PS – Tivo/DVR, You are a blessing!

I fell asleep on the couch for the first time ever, so the pacing was obviously very slow. I also notice that a finally tally is not posted. Did I win? I doubt it, I never do at this kind of stuff. Let’s have the results please.
I think Jon did a great job. Even just at picking out the stars and commenting during his monoloque, he just seemed very natural and comfortable. he’s great.
