I was excited to see this movie but for the first few minutes I was afraid that the writer was substituting cute, precious language for being funny. Like, if you give a character quirky, kitchsy knick-knacks you don’t have to develop the character in any way; Their belongings ARE their character! Clever.
It mostly got over itself soon enough. I was glad that the previews I had seen didn’t tell the whole story. Although the biggest laughs in the audience were in the trailer. In fact, there was really only once that the audience laughed out loud. Jason Bateman was good. Micheal Cera was under-utilized, in my opinion. I loved Ellen Page (cute as a frikkin button!) but I do feel like a Best Acctress Nom is a bit much for what seems to be a role very close to her natural persona.
I liked the movie. I did feel like it was a bit over-hyped. I may be alone in that regard. I’m not being contrarian, it just felt a little forced to me. And I understand a movie creating its own universe this just felt like it was trying to create its own universe.
HUGE GRIPE: You wrote a screenplay. Other people read it. No one realizes the difference between Greek and Roman gods? No one? Zeus married Hera. Hera. The movie should be called Hera.
not the best movie ever made by an stretch of the imagination but it’s impossible not to adore Ellen Page after seeing the movie!
I wouldn’t mind her getting the Oscar just to see her standing next to the towering Daniel Day Lewis
I agree. Who doesn’t want to eat that girl up with a spoon?!?
